A Message to my Generation
I am often asked “what can I do, I’m just one person”
The following actions require no government intervention, no additional spending bills or adding to our deficit spending to accomplish.
Rethink Investing in Private Housing Equities:
Our current investment strategies are jeopardizing our children's future. By pouring money into private housing, we're driving up costs and making homeownership unattainable for the next generation. Let's reconsider our financial choices and work towards a more equitable housing market for all.
It's Not About Sacrifice, It's About Fairness:
We say that younger generations can afford homes if they simply cut back on luxuries and work harder. But the truth is, wages haven't kept pace with rising living costs over the past 50 years. Let’s boost wages through supporting companies that pay living wages, support collective bargaining, and promote job training programs to enhance earning potential.
Cost of Living:
The cost-of-living crisis is real, not dramatic. Homeownership is tougher now than during the Great Depression, wages don't match soaring food prices, and young people yearn for basic comfort, not wealth. Their struggles deserve acknowledgment. Let’s push for policy changes by contacting representatives and voting.
It's Not About Avoiding Work:
Contrary to the common misconception, younger generations aren't shying away from work. They're redefining priorities, recognizing that while salaries can be negotiated, time is priceless. This shift towards work-life balance reflects a desire for fulfillment beyond the workplace. Let’s support companies that pay employees fair wages and benefits that allow them to thrive financially. While being patient and empathetic as they explore their priorities and aspirations.
Bridging generational gaps:
My generation clings to traditional views, dismissing fresh perspectives. Embracing intergenerational dialogue can create a better life for everyone. There is so much more to a person's character than their birth year, and it's time we see each other as individuals rather than numbers and groups. Together change happens.
